CyBike
The Bonn-based company CyBike GmbH has developed a white label app approach as Software as a Service (SaaS) for the bike & e-bike market. Business customers can have a customer-specific mobile app for Android and iOS created according to a modular principle, which offers numerous functions related to bicycles. Existing customer applications or new, additional functions can be added at any time.
CyBike not only offers this app approach to customers in the bicycle industry, but also uses it itself as the basis for its own implementation of its “CyLock” app. “CyLock” is the self-developed anti-theft module, which as an innovative alarming and tracking module uses the latest mobile radio technology for energy-saving communication (NarrowBand IoT) as well as GPS for locating. CyLock is offered in different versions: for self-assembly or direct installation at the bicycle manufacturer.

Starting Point
As part of the expansion of its digital transformation strategy, a large insurance company planned to offer its insurance customers in Germany advantageous partner services via its own bicycle app. This useful app additionally offers the insurer a direct channel to its customers. This can be used to expand the range of services and strengthen customer loyalty. This would actually require the development of a stand-alone bike app with corresponding functionalities.
Instead, CyBike offered itself as a perfect partner with its white label app solution. Based on this white label solution, it was possible to implement a customer-specific branded app with numerous bicycle-specific functionalities easily, cost-effectively and quickly.
With our white label app approach on a SaaS basis and together with our IT implementation partner cronn, we can fully leverage the advantages for our customers: no high one-off expenses for an app in-house development or high costs for operation – coupled with short implementation time and maximum functional flexibility.
Solution
On behalf of CyBike, cronn adapted the functions and design of the existing white label app according to the ideas of the insurance company. In addition, further interesting functionalities were added. The result is the app “MeinFahrrad” – available at the app stores for Android and iOS.
Among other things, “MeinFahrrad” offers users a personalizable bike passport, a digital service record, a navigation function, as well as an overview of nearby bike stores, inner-tube vending machines, and e-charging stations. It also delivers all the necessary info for insurance coverage in the event of a claim and digital claims processing. It is also possible for the insurance company to get into direct contact with its insurance customers. A web portal function can be used to send personalized messages that go directly to a mailbox in the user’s app.
In cooperation with cronn, CyBike’s white label app approach makes it possible to provide a customized mobile app in the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store within a short project period of only three months. The system runs directly from the cloud on CyBike’s own IT backend system. Among other things, this makes it easy to scale as user numbers increase.
