The Federal Environment Agency (UBA) is the central environmental authority in Germany in providing citizens with extensive information on environmental issues. One way of doing this is with their “Chemistry in Everyday Life” app.
The app
To make it easier for citizens to access reliable information about chemicals, UBA offers various solutions, one of them being the Android and iOS app “Chemistry in Everyday Life”. The application makes it possible to search for substances in various ways: by entering molecular formulas, numbers on dangerous goods boards, or through scanning a barcode. Consumers then receive all the necessary information, such as the hazards of and safety precautions needed in handling said chemicals. The data source is ChemInfo – the information system on chemicals of the federal and state governments.
With cronn, we were able to make the app more accessible and better open to the public – our cooperation was open, pleasant and solution-oriented.
Solution
cronn extensively redesigned the app to make it more intuitive, accessible, and future-proof. The following points have been improved:
- Presentation of information: clear presentation of substance information, display of chemical structure images and symbols of hazardous substances
- User interface overhaul: Modern UI/UX design for easy and intuitive use, including optimized display on tablets
- Optimization of accessibility: Improved usability for all users
- Expansion of connections with the database: Integration of flexible interfaces for smooth connection to the UBA database
Result
With the functionally and visually revised version of the “Chemistry in Everyday Life” app, citizens in Germany will have quick and uncomplicated access to information about the safety of chemicals. The intuitive operation and accessible design ensure that people with different needs will have no issues when using the app.
